George Bush's Campaign Team Joining John McCain

With the 2008 presidential election less than three years away, more than a few members of President Bush's campaign team have begun to migrate to the current GOP frontrunner, Sen. John McCain.

According to Newsweek magazine, Mark McKinnon, Bush's longtime media adviser, has told the president he's ready to leap aboard McCain's "Straight Talk Express," unless brother Jeb or Condoleezza Rice change their minds and get into the race.

Among Bush fundraisers, the biggest catch, says Newsweek, is Tom Loeffler, a former congressman from San Antonio, who is a Bush-family loyalist and helped build Bush's money machine in 2000.

Ron Weiser, who was Bush's finance chairman in Michigan in 2000, has also joined McCain.

However, in a bizarre observation considering the Arizona maverick's frontrunner status, McKinnon told Newsweek: "I'd rather lose with McCain than win with somebody else."

Other presidential hopefuls scouting for campaign talent include Tennessee Sen. Bill Frist, Virginia Sen. George Allen and Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

Notably absent from the competition: former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who was leading McCain in most GOP presidential preference polls last year - but has done little to advance a presidential bid lately.

I understand where you are coming from but it's not just voting for the lesser of two evils in 08. It is the survival of our country for our kids and grandkids. Think carefully about what a demo president - SheBeast or whoever - will do to us....things that can't be undone.

Don'tg be so sure. Imagine campaign finance reform writ large. McCain, while good on some stuff ( and I like the letter to Osama Obama, wish he'd kept it private) can be pretty off he wall on other things. He can also be pretty mean.

The left's worst nightmare (and the fringe right): a Bush/Rice ticket.

My prediction
The good : McPain will hopefully get beat in the primary like last time .
The bad : McPain will have a temper tantrum and form a third party movement as revenge .
The ugly : Hitlary wins the general

The surreal, but plausible: If Hitlary fails to get the Dem nomination , she will join McPain on that third party ticket, McPain/Klinton '08

Allen will suit me fine , but I think a Romney/Rice ticket would be ideal if they are right on the culture issues (guns/abortion/taxes).

"My money is still on George Allen."

Mine too. If McCain or Giuliani get the nomination I'll vote Constitution Party.

Why are they wasting time/money/energy on John McCain? IMO, he's a loser right out of the gate.

Reason #1 not to donate to anything Republican.

I too understand where you are coming from. It then becomes an issue of trust and I don't trust John McCain, period. But you and I share concern about the future of this country and that's why I will vote in the primary and hopefully convince a few others as well.

I always said that was the winning ticket -- and, I still think it is. Who knows what will happen. Maybe Gov Bush will be out of politics for a year and miss it so much he jumps into the race at the last possible minute. Lots of drama in that. Plus, a big sigh of relief from a lot of FL voters who would be happy to voter for him again, for whatever.

There is absolutely NO WAY the country will go for Jeb Bush being on the ticket in 2008.

I happen to think otherwise...

That may be true; I would not bet on it being better with Mcaniac as President. He hates Christians. He loves to get kudos from the leftist press...can you say sodomy in every school in the land and the redefination of marriage and sodomy speical rights? I knew you could.

He will also limit gun righs and run witch hunts against the NRA and it's supporters. He will be able to do more damage than Hillary who is the opposition of a powerful Republican machine. McCain will be like Nixon only much angrier and crazier...

Nope. Won't do it.

I've voted in every election since '92(the first one after I was old enough), but I will NOT vote for McCain.

And save the "well thats a vote for Hitlery" BS.

McCain is no better than she is.
