Those are issues of taste and decorum, and it is not the business of our State Department to comment on such matters.

That statement, coming from an official State Department spokesman, makes us look more scared than France and the person who uttered it is an idiot.

He should have left it at:

"We all fully recognize and respect freedom of the press and expression."

The rest of the statement is reprehensible.

There is more sense in those two sentences than the average State Department functionary could possibly comprehend.

I nominate dead for the post of Ass't Secretary of State for Clear Thinking.

Agreed. It isn't in their job description to tell Americans how or what to think. It's their job to insure we have the freedom to think and protect our shores, borders and air space.

The gummint does not speak for the Citizens. It protects Citizens right to speak for themselves. They are carrying this 'nanny' federalism crap just a little too far, declaring such a murderous cult as a 'religion of peace and love' when we know better and the gummint knows better.

It's not diplomacy, it's hypocricy, and yes, it sends the wrong message. Not only makes the person who said it an idiot, but makes us all look like frightened idiots when just the opposite is the truth.

Note to terrorists: Don't mistake what some un-official spokesperson might say could be prompted by fear and is indicatative of the general state of the population in America.

We are not fearful. We are in a state of absolute anger. Be wise and discern the difference.
