Am I wrong or is it different in some states? Is is EVER "innocent by reason of insanity" is is that a mistake made by the media?? (The same ones who call weapons "guns," ships "boats" and marines "soldiers.")

It's not guilty, rather than innocent in all states, I believe.

Reporters are always talking about people "pleading innocent." No one ever pleads "innocent." In adult criminal cases people plead guilty, not guilty, or no contest. If you ever read about someone pleading innocent, you are reading something written by a reporter who doesn't know what he or she is talking about.

I don't believe "innocent" is ever a legal plea. "Innocence" isn't a matter for the courts, only guilt. And the opposite of "guilty" is "not guilty."

It's not just the media - very common (yet irritating) mistake.
