WASHINGTON (AFP) - U2 frontman Bono, quoting the Koran, the Bible and rock band Dire Straits, urged President George W. Bush to boost US aid to the world's poor by some 25 billion dollars.

"This is not about charity, it's about justice," the singer and activist told the annual US national prayer breakfast, which included Bush, members of Congress, and Muslim, Christian, and Jewish leaders.
"That's too bad, because we're good at charity," he said. "But justice is a higher standard. Africa makes a fool of our idea of justice it makes a farce of our idea of equality."
"There's no way we can look at what's happening in Africa and, if we're honest, conclude that, deep down, we would let it happen anywhere else," said the rock star, a champion of funding to fight AIDS and famine worldwide.

Just NOW they're proposing this donation?
He's been harping on for 6 years about the U.S. giving more....and more....and more.
Btw, let us know when his check clears.
>Bono asks Bush for billions to help poor
And when this traitor says "poor" he means Africa's poor, not our European brothers and sisters.
Sadly, Bono went to the right person to ask for a few billion dollars.
There is plenty of help being given by the Congress and President so far. If anything, many conservatives are upset about how compassionate this Administration is.
All the aid we've given Haiti so far, for example, has had no effect. Totally wasted.
He shoulda asked Kerry and Kenndy to give.
There will always be poor.
That is not something that realistically can be ended by throwing money at it.
Giving money to poor people doesn't end poverty.
You do understand that concept, don't you?
The EU freaks when American biogeneticists come up with corn and rice that can grow and produce well in substandard soils. Why? The EU's subsidized agriculture doesn't like it. The genetically altered corn is aimed at Africa, where millions starve. Bono would rather rob American taxpayers. Throwing money at Africa accomplishes nothing useful, in fact it doubles the problem. Did I read an alligator crawl tonight on Fox or CNN that the US intends to take over/clean up policing the Sudan? while we're in charge of whatever at the UN? Oh, boy.
Be my guest and help your own, that I'll help mine.
Why is it 'our part'?
What did we do to create the issue, especially since there are other things that need our attention?
Its not sad that Bono is trying to do some good - its sad that Bush thinks the GDP = infinity.
