To: television is just wrong
making sure I got what I paid for

The unspoken part end of that sentence is "and only what you paid for." They can ask you to voluntarily consent to a search but anything stronger is done at their own risk as you can always sue.

I have had the clerks at costco grab my cart not me. And pull me back into the store to check my items. I take issue with that as that can be considered battery.
