"Is the legend of Viracocha the basis of the Mormon belief that Christ visited the Americas after the Assumption?"

I had the same question in my mind when I read this post.

I’m not sure about Viracocha, but extensive research on the legend of Quetzalcoatl, conducted by Mormon church member Brant Gardner, concluded there is no connection between Quetzalcoatl and the Book of Mormon’s account of Christ in the Americas.

Some of these myths/legends do appear to have Christian overtones: Walking on water, healing the sick and etc.

These may be additions to the local legends added by the early Europeans?
