I actually think Toles is one of the best in the business. I rarely agree with him - and yet he usually makes me laugh. That's the sign of a great cartoonist.
But this one crosses a line. It's in extraordinarily poor taste. As a former cartoonist myself, I know that not every clever idea deserves to leave the drawing board. This was one of them.

Last I check Tole still has the right to be an insensitive idiot.
But thing that get the libs upset is when they get reminded that free speech is a two way street.

That's it, the Post has crossed the line. This is so far beneath contempt that I can't even imagine them being an American paper.

What a vile cartoon. There is absolutely no way to white-wash it... the left in this country IS showing their utter contempt for the military. This kind of crap truly gives lie to their "we support the troops" rhetoric.

How come the MSM don't cover the outrageous behavior of Code Pink outside of the veteran hospital (I forgot the name) tormenting our wounded soldiers? That's even more outrageous behavior than this cartoon. Their despicable behavior should be videotaped for use in political ads later this year.

If President Bush had a highly developed sense of honor, he would pull the White House press credentials of the WashCompost until an apology from the publisher, the editor and the vile cartoonist was published on the front page.

Oh, the chill this will have on freedom of the press! I need a hug! (psych!)

Mr. Toles is using a crippled soldier as a comic device in an anti-war cartoon. The soldier is just a prop; his portrayal of the person's suffering is on the level of crude Hustler magazine humor or lower. This would be the height of disrespect for anyone; for a U.S. soldier it's reprehensible. Anyone claiming that such a cartoon is actually meant to advocate empathy for our troops is demented; it would be like saying that a horror film with chainsaws buzzing and limbs flying somehow advocates life. This cartoon is just more garbage for the garbage eaters.
Cartoons are for children, or should be. A cartoonist should at least assume that children may see their work. I can only image the reaction to the children of one of these injured service people to a cartoon such as this.
If you judge Mr. Tole's cartoon against the work of Bill Maudlin, you'll realize it's impoverished. He doesn't have a darn thing to say about the U.S. Serviceperson that's insightful or of value.

I noticed he doesn't have the balls to attack the Marines.

When the next group of circulation numbers come out no one should be surprised if the Washington Post's numbers are not on the upswing...
I canceled my newspaper subscription years ago because of the one-side nature of Yost's editorial content and reporting. But, now the company is up for sale, they still have not figured it out.

I wonder how Aravosis would feel if someone said the following about him.
"Now that Aravosis have addressed the insidious threat about the joint chiefs protesting a cartoon, perhaps he can move on to less pressing issues like getting his damn gay friends from giving each other AIDS."

My opinion on this
1.he has the right to draw his cartoon
2.we have the right to cancel our subscriptions (those of us who actually had them in the first place...)
3.the cartoon is despicable, but freedom of speech is a 2 way street, all liberals and some of us need to realize that.

The Washington Compost has the feeling they create to much newspaper circulation, and this is their attempt to reduce subscriptions or eliminate them all together. To those who work at this rag, my suggestion is that you update your resume and check out the classified ads ASAP.
