Yeah, he calls it "Humpback Mountain" and I know he does it on purpose.

But it's just a movie! And it made some good per-screen money! We shouldn't be criticizing it's content if we follow Rush's rules here!

And it made some good per-screen money!

Really? How much? I seem to have missed it.....well, to help you out, here is some info for you. BTW, biggest per theater average in history is designed to pull the wool over your eyes considering the movie was targeted specifically at communities and theaters with high populations of homosexuals and lesbians who of course flocked (no pun intended) to the showings.

The real test of its attractiveness will be when it is shown in the heartland and red states, if it ever is.

$22 million in the U.S. and Canada as of 1/8/06 is a bust!

Currently Brokeback Mountain is being shown in 483 theaters in the United States and will go into wide release with 700 theaters on January 13, 2006.

"Brokeback Mountain saw limited release in the United States on December 9, 2005 (in New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco), taking $547,425 in just five theaters in its first weekend.

According to several sources, including TV Guide and indiewire , this was the highest per-showing average for any drama in film history.

Over the Christmas weekend it posted the highest per theater gross of any movie and was lauded as a box office success not only in urban centers such as New York City and Los Angeles, but in suburban theaters near Portland, Dallas, Denver, and Atlanta.

On January 7, 2006, the movie opened to its widest screening yet, moving from 269 theaters since January 1 to 483.

In doing so it took in its largest one-day gross to date at $ 1.7 million in the U.S. However, the film's total box office receipts are relatively low due to the limited number of theaters it is showing on.

As of January 8, 2006 "Brokeback Mountain" has earned a total of $22.4 million in the United States and Canada

Focus Features, the movie's distributor, is planning to release the film to several hundred or more screens in North America by the end of January 2006.

According to boxofficemojo.com Brokeback Mountain will go into wide release with 700 theaters on January 13, 2006."
