Rep. Chris Cannon, R-Utah, said he was pleased Bush "called for an immigration system that deals with the influx of illegal immigrants realistically. Now it's time for both the House and the Senate to rise to the president's challenge and enact meaningful, comprehensive immigration reform."

Chris Cannon needs to be retired by his constituents.

The entire State of the Union Address was rendered useless by Bush, once again, doing the Texas Two-Step around the illegal alien invasion. Bad move, President Bush.

I saw on FOX News a sheriff from Ohio who is billing the US Government for the cost of illegal alien incarceration of illegal aliens in his Ohio jurisdiction.

We all talk of the cost of medical care of illegal aliens, but the cost of incarceration of thugs and low-lifes from Mexico and other foreign nations is stratospheric in cost also.

Anytime Bush mentions "guest workers" and fails to mention the BILLIONS we pay for medical care and jailing them is time when you take the remote and just zap Bush off.

Sad to say, many of us will zap Republicans at the polls in 06 and 08 due to the failure to enforce our borders and the destruction of our national sovereignty. Will the RATs be any better? No, they will be worse. But we count on Republicans to be the "reasonable party" and the Republican'ts have failed in their duty.

Sadly, President Bush's failure to secure the borders is undermining his position WRT the NSA surveillence issue. IOW, he says that he is required by the Constitution to protect us against terrorists, but he refuses to take the needed actions to secure our borders against invasion.

Cherry picking which threats to act on does not lend credibility to his position. It really doesn't.

I am a long time Bush supporter, but I gotta call a spade a spade.

Bush could do something about Illegel Immigration... Shut down the borders. But then every Pro-Business Republican and the entire Democratic Party would have a fit. The Dims will say that Bush is racist, classist, and so on. The Pro Business ones would say that we are gitting rid of a cheap labor source.

I think a 20 foot tall wall topped with concertina wire and guard towers with .50 cal. machine guns is humane.

The border crashers would know that their efforts are fruitless, and would therefore not attempt to cross. They would also spare themselves the dangerous crossing of the desert, especially during the summer months.

I call for a FREAKIN' WALL FIRST!

Then, if the labor market tightens too much, start a guest worker program.

We can call it, "Compassionate Immigration."

It almost sounds like Bush is thinking about the old Bracero Program that President Kennedy killed in 1963.

"...Rep. Chris Cannon, R-Utah, said he was pleased Bush 'called for an immigration system that deals with the influx of illegal immigrants realistically...'"

Hmm, I didn't hear any plans for incarceration or deportation or both. "Realistically" "deal(ing) with "illegal immigrants" should involve both. Hiring them as employees, giving them taxpayer dollars and various other gifts thanks to the largesse that exists because of citizens, is NOT "deal(ing) with the influx of illegal immigrants realistically."

I also think it's sad that Bush thinks the country "can't function" without illegal aliens. They're here illegally, they're violating the laws, and thus, he might just as well say that "crime pays, and we need it."

Evidently Bush has taken to channelling the wit and wisdom of Jimmy Carter. Great minds thinking alike.

Secure the borders with all means necessary, including a dual-wall system and 'depth charges' to prohibit tunneling.

THEN talk a shamnesty Guest Worker program.

Not only do the illegal immigrants in this country not obey our immigration laws, neither do the politicians and bureaucrats charged with enforcing them - and that includes President George Bush, sadly.

How can there be any respect for the Rule of Law in America if millions disobey it yet get away with the wholesale breaking of it - and the ones specifically charged with the responsibility for upholding those very laws chuckle and look the other way?

We already have a "Guest Worker Program" - all those H1B Visas in High Tech fields. Ostensibly, they fill jobs for which there are no Americans. In reality, it is a giant gift to big business to keep the salaries of high tech workers low!

I think Senor El Presidente Jorge Bush must have his sombrero on too tight! He just doesn't seem to get it when it comes to borders and illegal immigration!
