"The state official ... 'responded no, that they do not require anything at this time and they would be in touch if and when they needed assistance ...'"
And this one ...
The committee also released a Senate interview of Louisiana Transportation Secretary Johnny Bradberry, during which he told investigators "we have done nothing to fulfill this responsibility" of ensuring evacuation plans are in place for at-risk populations.
Despite the title this article has nothing to do with FEMA what so ever. I guess even when the have nothing on the government they still have to make them look bad.
'Misleading headline alert.'
Darned if it ain't. Should be 'Louisiana State Officials Acknowledge Blunders During Katrina.'
Add to that charge: Poorly written news article.
I can tell you that they didn't have a plan to evacuate prior to the storm.
LSU which is over the Charity system did a horrible job. They should be ashamed.
Ha! The title now seems to be:
La. Turned Down Feds Help, Documents Show - I almost reposted the article.
Seems to me that the blame for what could have been prevented during the storm is solely on the shoulders of the Governor of LA and the Mayor of N.O..
At least 40 bodies, many of them elderly patients, were found inside a flooded New Orleans hospital after Katrina hit. Thirty-four patients at a nursing home near New Orleans died Aug. 29 in the wake of massive flooding brought by the storm's surge. The nursing home's owners have since been charged with negligent homicide for failing to evacuate the patients.
-----At least they are holding someone accountable for those peoples' deaths. Too bad you can't hold people accountable for ignorance and just plain stupidity because some of the things, in an emergency, they should have used common sense and NOT waited on the officials to tell them what to do.
