The dear changed her mind. How sweet.

She picked up the senate seat a decade ago by promising to support the Balanced Budget Amendment, then "changed her mind" when it came up for a vote. California used to have at least a "RHINO-ish" Republican Senator, along with Alan Cranston. Now we have a total loon (Boxer) and a liar (Feinstein).

A LOGICAL Democrat? Could it be?

Sorry, but that would not be logical.

The democratic senators act like the senate is a barroom brawl while the republican senators act like it is a country club.

It's like Pit Bulls vs Poodles.

Well, abstaining from cloture vote = supporting filibuster. I can't imagine anybody (even the Democrats) saying that he opposes filibuster and then voting to support it.

Landrieu's Office just said they will vote for Cloture but because of that she will be bombarded with calls from DUers until she surrenders to their demands.

Chafee will vote for Cloture but of course the DUers are going to attack his office this weekend too.

LOL I wouldn't want to be a staffer in any Dem Senator's office right now! LOL

"The Democrats are flustered because their base is upset, they know they don't have the votes, and they are caught in a hard spot. 'Cause I guarentee certain Dems up for re-election are right now telling Kerry, and Kennedy and the other losers they aren't going down the Tom Daschle Titanic on this one."

Agreed, but watching Nelson and Bayh re-arrange the deck chairs is some wondrous Schadenfreude!

I'm curious; do you have actual examples of her having been reasonable in the past?

I know her best from her anti-gun demogoguery (sp?), so I have never really found her to be the least bit reasonable (or honest).

We will not lose seats in 2006, we will probably gain. It looks like the dems that are up are much more vulnerable.

I swear FRIST BETTER USE THAT NUCLEAR OPTION. He better not wimp out!

Frist wimped out on the first threat to use the nuke option, . . . you know, the one that lead to that very wimpy, lame, flaccid, spineless, gutless "confirm 3 justices and keep the filibuster option open" deal.

Look for Frist to wimp out. Look for the RINOs to wimp out. The RATs control the Senate because the Republicans are cowards.

I am not really confident all RINOs will vote for the nuclear option either. But we don't need all RINOS only 51.

I think it is unlikely. The Dems have enough problems without dragin this out. It is a no win for them. The GOP will make them look like they are beating old ladies.

Senator Ken Salazar's office is taking a poll right now on how many calls. DUers are calling and e-mailing all the Democratic Senators regardless and the Senator who are sitting on the fence about filibustering said they are waiting to see how many calls they get. WE HAVE TO ACT NOW!

No. Do absolutely nothing at all.

The BEST possible thing to do in this scenario is to let the Democratic Party show itself for what it really is- an obstructionist party that will take down any qualified candidate simply because said candidate doesn't agree with their political views. Let them pull a Daschle x 10. This is the PERFECT year for them to do so, as it will show the country- RIGHT BEFORE ELECTION SEASON- that these guys haven't changed one degree from the angry party they were in 2004 and post-2000.

In fact, I'd even endorsing writing these Democrat Senators and duping them into going full speed ahead with the filibuster. The moment John "pompous ass" Kerry launches the filibuster, the media will be talking about it 24/7, especially leading up to the State of the Union. Then, all the President needs to do is call out the Dems during the speech, and the country will see an exposed Democrat Party.

So...FILIBUSTER AWAY!!!

"I think that the Dems are gambling that the Republicans are feeling so vulnerable"

Vulnerable? Why would they be feeling vulnerable? The Libs have totally disgraced themselves before the public during the Alito hearings. They have also re enforced their reputation as not fit to defend this nation by their insane military bashing, claims we have lost the war and their cowardly cut and run demands.

Even the dems aren't stupid enough to try this. What would be their justification? Alito is too extreme? The electorate that put George Bush in office won't buy it. If they want to become slaves to their base, they are damning themselves to a long exile in the political wilderness.

Not in the Senate.

Check out the candidate recruiting that Liddy Dole has done thus far, compared to that done by Charles Schumer.

It's possible that we might break even-it would be a miraculous turn of events-but it would be in spite of her best efforts at turning in an absolutely horrid performance.

Look, if they had elected Norm Coleman to this position-and what on earth possessed the dingbats in the Republican caucus to elect her instead of Coleman is beyond me-I would have been more positive.

I would have even agreed with you, despite the inherent obstacles the GOP faces in 2006.

However, to say that Liddy Dole is going to out-perform someone like Chuck Schumer in the field of politics is patently absurd.

It would be akin to betting on Chuck Wepner right before his fight with Mohammed Ali.

Even for those who aren't familiar with the tenacity of Chuck Schumer the ineptitude of Liddy Dole should be apparent.

She would not even be a U.S. Senator today if she,

1. Was not married to Bob Dole

2. Didn't have the most hapless of Dem. opponents running against her.

She might have still lost-taking those two factors into account-if she hadn't run against someone who had consciously alienated the African-American community-the base of the Dem. Party-during prior runs for office in North Carolina.

The U.S. Senate wants justices that are on their intellectual plain.

Unfortunately, using that standard we've wound up with such legal giants as Ruth "Buzzie" Ginsburg, Anthony "C-list" Kennedy, and the lamentable SDO.
