I can't help but think that it's a bone being thrown to the barking moonbat wing of the party, i.e., DUers, like a futile "you have spoken and I am listening" move, but Alito will still be confirmed.

yeah, except that "1" is hardly a comfortable margin. lose 1 vote from your calculation, and cloture fails - then we have to hold 50 for the nuclear option.

Ditto. Reid knew this already, and he's said straight-out that the votes to sustain a filibuster are not there.
There wil be no filbuster. Alito will be confirmed on Tuesday.

Frist et al had better wake up this weekend - and start canvassing and asking republican senators to go ON THE RECORD PUBLICLY to say they will vote for the nuclear option. when that total equals 50, that's the only way the left is going to be silenced on this.

There wil be no filbuster. Alito will be confirmed on Tuesday. I'm not too sure about that. Alot of the Democrats that are on the fence will be voting yes because of the calls they got today and will get over the weekend. The DUers are threatening them left and right and you know what COWARDS the Democrat Senators are.
