I'm watching the Senate right now on c-span2 and so far they have 55 Senators pledged to vote yes on Alito, so if they get enough votes for cloture he will be confirmed easily.

Senators Chafee, Collins, and Snowe are the only Republicans who haven't pledged their vote. Nelson of Nebraska and Johnson of South Dakota are the only two Democrats who have pledged to vote yes.

Chaffee, Snowe and Stevens. Collins is in the "AYE" column, and Stevens will be too - I wouldn't count him as holding out for any matter of principle or wavering of position.

Nelson of Nebraska and Johnson of South Dakota are the only two Democrats who have pledged to vote yes.

Nelson of Nebraska, Johnson, and Byrd are the three current crossovers. I expect there will be two others so thatteh number of AYE votes reaches 60. That would "stiff" the filibuster option, and provides the simplest cover for the DEM party.
