Alito already was assured the votes of the 55 Republicans

Have we heard from Chafee, Collins, etc.?

Could you please add "Bob Byrd to vote FOR Alito" in the headline! That's big, IMHO. :)

Alito already was assured the votes of the 55 Republicans in the 100- member chamber...

Have Chafee, Collins, and Snowe said they'll vote for him?

Robert Byrd? Did anyone tell him he's supporting Alito?

If true, that makes 58 Yea. 3 more to be fillibuster-proof.

I've been saying, Robert Byrd is by no means the worst Dem on Capitol Hill...

Even though Byrd is only supporting Alito because he faces a tough reelection campaign, his vote is a knife through the heart of the Democrats wanting a Filibuster.

Sheets Byrd is up for re-election and might have to actually spend some money to stay in office. Apparently he cannot afford act quite as ridiculous as The Swimmer these days.

Where are all of the Byrd bashers now? Surely nobody will support one of "Sheets"' decisions.

It should be noted that a block of senators usually follow his lead.

West Virginia's Byrd and Johnson of South Dakota joined Nebraska's Ben Nelson in saying they'll vote yes.

I am pleased that Sen. Tim Johnson (D-SD) decided not to drink the liberal kool-aid on the Alito nomination. Tim is a decent guy and has, now that he is out of Tom Daschle's influence, been better reflecting this red state's values.

"I am troubled by Judge Alito's apparent views... Even so, I cannot accept an argument that his views are so radical that the Senate is justified in denying his confirmation."

And that is the way it should be. Elections have consequences.

All of this praise for Byrd is so laughable. He is doing what's best for Robert Byrd, not for the American people. It just happens in this case that supporting Alito accomplishes both. Wait until after he is re-elected and then tell me how great he is. This is simply a man who doesn't want to loose power. The wonderful people of WV deserve better!
