Our American president went to the National Security Agency in Ft. Meade, Maryland, to speak with staff and address the press there. Click here for text of his remarks. He also spoke with former clerks of Judge Alito's.

Laua Bush oversaw the "Coming Up Taller Awards" in the White House, an initiative of the U.S. President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities overseen by the first lady. This is for after-school events that promote the arts in youth.

QUOTE: "These fine men and women with me today have worked side by side with Sam Alito, and they are uniquely qualified to assess what kind of Supreme Court Justice he would be. As the full Senate takes up Judge Alito's nomination, it is important for the American people to hear what his former clerks say about this fine judge and his approach to the law."

At NSA: "Part of the war on terror -- we've seen that part of the terrorists' strategy is to place operatives inside of our country. ... When terrorist operatives are here in America communicating with someone overseas, we must understand what's going on if we're going to do our job to protect the people. The safety and security of the American people depend on our ability to find out who the terrorists are talking to, and what they're planning."

This must be the stuff of liberals' nightmares.
A National Security Agency police officer stands guard during President Bush's visit to the National Security Agency.

Bush traveled to the heavily-secured site of the super-secret spy agency [okay, if it's so super-secret, why am I reposting photos of it here on good old FREE Republic?] in suburban Maryland to give a speech behind closed doors and meet with employees in advance of Senate hearings on al-Qaeda surveillance.
