Now blaming the ultra-right for the Alito nomination. (He may be right about that part) :)

Actually, I think the main objection to Meiers was the fact that she was not very well qualified. She had not served as a judge and she had argued no cases before the Supreme Court. She was not considered a great legal mind, although she was considered a competent lawyer. As one of the Rep. Judiciary Committee members said yesterday (paraphrased)- Do you think she could have answered all the constitutional questions asked by the committee? Do you think she would have exhibited the almost encyclopedic memory of SC cases that judge Alito did? I don't believe her lack of a "conservative" position torpedoed her. No, it was her lack of qualifications.
