This show was protested more than most and that certainly had an effect; bad as the show was they probably would have kept it through the first eight episodes as part of their standard anti-Christian fare.
What amazes me is that "Da Vinci Code" was not protested and stores boycotted. That is just as offensive if not more than a TV show. When it came out, I expected it to be pulled from grocery stores due to complaints but perhaps stay in bookstores. I sure didn't expect it to sell so much!
I guess certain things strike people the wrong way way more than others.

It's amazing isn't it?
I suppose if blasphemy is packaged right, it will sell. All I can say is those fallen angels are laughing their arses off at those that buy into their intellectual trash.

Ya know.. you (as Rush would say) swerved into the truth. "The Book of Daniel" probably wouldn't have ignited as much controversey as it did if it didn't have an actor portraying Jesus as kind of a "hip" spirtual dude.
If all they had done was have the priest character talking to himself as if he were talking to Jesus the show would have probably lived on. As soon as you give a name and a face to God, you're going to step on people's toes.
Da Vinci Code didn't offend me. To me, it was clearly presented as a man's interpretation of things that may or may not be there -- (i.e. the images in the paintings). It wasn't a great story (it may not even be an original story, Dan Brown and his publisher have been/are being sued for plagerism)... but to me it was clearly presented as a "What if"... and I have no problem with "what if" stories.
The Book of Daniel was more of a "This is how Christian life is..." Very little "What if" to it.
But several churches did have book burnings of Da Vinci Code. I'm sure we'll see more of them as we get closer to the movie opening date.
