American Idol accused of homophobia

American Idol homophobic?

According to entertainment and celebrity website TMZ.com, officials at the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) are fuming about the Fox show's attitude toward gay people.

GLAAD is mad about the acerbic comments that Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson made to contestants on the show's debut a few days ago.

"Shave off your beard and wear a dress," Cowell told one would-be contestant, while Jackson asked another male reject, "Are you a girl?".

GLAAD also notes that Ryan Seacrest and Cowell regularly exchange on-air insults, each implying that the other is gay.

It seems to me that if Simon were a homophobe, he would have run off the state screaming in horror when the guy with the pigtails came on. I didn't see any fear displayed.

I liked American Idol back when it was called, "The Gong Show."

LMAO!!I agree.

I know we all talked about this before, but don't gripe that people think you are a girl when you are wearing a chin length blonde bob, a girls top, flared jeans, platform high-heeled boots, and pluck your eyebrows to nothing.

Politically correct gag: anti free speech.

Homophobia? I can dislike any aspect of homosexuality, its "culture" and dispise the truth of its lifestyle and activist agenda. Fauxbia!

I'm sure you would all agree with me that one assumes the risk when appearing on this show-it is for entertainment...our entertainment, not unlike getting hit by a foul ball at a ballpark-cannot sue. These people who go on this show take a risk of being humiliated. It is just like the radical gay agenda to make hay of this crap.

This is pretty much the only show on TV that I will stop to watch, and then only the initial episodes of the current search - the rejects are so damned funny.

One of the things the "judges" have to consider is mass appeal. Teen hormones play a big role in this. Previous "idols" who have been outed have crashed and burned. There is no way an openly or obviously gay will be selected by the phone-in public. I doubt that even Elton John could win that competition. Simon is right not to invest his time and money on them.

The way Cowell treated Zachary and the guy with beard was cruel and unnecessary. I hated him for it, but it was hardly "homophobic".

Ha!
That will be the compromise, to play more showtunes.
Oh, and to donate millions to AIDS research.
