American Idol homophobic?
According to entertainment and celebrity website TMZ.com, officials at the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) are fuming about the Fox show's attitude toward gay people.
GLAAD is mad about the acerbic comments that Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson made to contestants on the show's debut a few days ago.
"Shave off your beard and wear a dress," Cowell told one would-be contestant, while Jackson asked another male reject, "Are you a girl?".
GLAAD also notes that Ryan Seacrest and Cowell regularly exchange on-air insults, each implying that the other is gay.
ping!
There's goes that show.
I so knew this was coming as soon as we saw "Zachery" on opening night.
Uh, that's why I watch the show...wtf?
I figured Simon was a poofter.
Homosexuals should be thought of as Gods, and homosexuality the Religion of the most enlightened people on earth.
Anything short is "homophobia."
I agree 100% that was a complete setup and the show took it hook, line and sinker.
I thought Simon's comment was rude, but not because I think he is homophobic.
As to Randy Jackson't comment, that kid did look like a girl. They have to know what they are looking at to make a judgement on talent.
Exactly
I always assumed it was Ryan Seacrest who plays for the other team. If they were really homophobic then Clay Aiken wouldn't have gotten as far as he did.
Perhaps not enough show tunes are being performed on the show?
I think I am tone-deaf and would NEVER go on that show, even if I loved singing. I can't believe some people didn't give him a clue that he was really a terrible singer and could never be on the show.
I am sitting here rolling my eyes. AI has turned into gay central for guys. If they can't handle being poked fun at then they shouldn't try out. We are not talking about your run of the mill gay types. These people are all out flamboyant gays. He's right, you couldn't tell if it was a boy or girl. Plus not a one of them could sing.
They need to get over themselves.
Homo"phobia" is such a poor term.
Most people who fit in that category, like me, aren't "afraid" of homos - we just detest them.
Anybody out there know the Ancient Greek Stem word for "hate"?
I saw that episode. Simon was spot on. Contestant "Zachary" was obviously confused about his identity and his sexuality.
Simon give some spice to the show - some gal butchered a Paula Abdul song, and when Paula said "No", and asked Simon what he thought, he said that it was one of the few times that the remake was actually better than the original...
Didn't the queen herself, Elton John, last year accuse the show of being racist?
