If you see the video clip "Angel Flares" you will see it has not been edited.
In this photo, the leading aircraft fired off it's flares, then flew on. When past the flare residue the second aircraft fired it's flares.

The photo was not edited. The “angel” is the smoke remaining from a previous flare release some distance back.
There is visual compression from the use of a telephoto lens. The aircraft are more separated than it appears as is the smoke angel.
