One thing you see more often in L&O these days are cases where the leftwing writers/producers come up with some leftwing agenda they wish to push, then construct a thin plot around that agenda. Whether its gay marriage or the idea that the real terrorist threat are racist white vigilantes, you can count on Law & Order to carry the left's water.

The old show Picett Fences was about as left wing, agenda driven as could be possible on TV. That show was as insufferable as it was "in your face".

The West Wing was high art by comparison in the way it deftly handled controversial issues.
