Equally important, the cops' job is to see that all the other kids at the school go home alive. In that kind of a situation, if a 15 year old perp paints a pellet gun to look like a real gun, the cops need to take the kid at his word and waste him.

Actually, what happened was a really good thing in the overall scheme of things. For the first time a would be mass shooter has been killed on the spot, not disabled and captured, but KILLED.
