Lengthy as it was, I read this very interesting article. With reference to the "anti-Sharon left," I note that former German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer (Green Party)who used to pretend to be an even hand in the Middle East has just denounced Sharon (while Sharon lay in hospital.) The rise of anti-Semitism, hand in hand with attacks on Israel, in both the European and American Left is reprehensible. Reprehensible, but not entirely surprising, because eventually the Left seems to nurture every conceivable form of nastiness.

I agree they two go hand in hand. I would anti-clericalism to that as well. After all it was the anti-religious tyrants that forced out the Puritans and Huguenots to America. In essence those that came to America wanted to free so badly from what is essentially slavery, they were willing to risk their lives in an unknown world. It is no accident that most of Europe is run as proportional representation mad houses.
