MSNBC: Democrat (Biden) says Alito hearings may be pointlessIf the Dems vote party line against this judge, Arlen Specter has a great case for dumping the whole charade.
- He could cite the ratio of senators droning to witness answers. Rhetorically: "Why even ask the question?"
- He could cite the percentage of times a senator asked a question and then cut off the answer.
- He could also tell us how much time was spent on Roe v. Wade vs. everything else. Why not make the entire Judiciary Committee review one question about that case?
- He could talk about character assassination. How hurtful it is to the nominees and their families (thanks Mrs. Alito).
- Then cite Kennedy's "subpoena to nowhere" and the number of questions dedicated to an organization which apparently had nothing to do with Judge Alito. Why are we wasting everyone's time on irrelevant fishing trips?
- The party line vote proves that it doesn't matter how forthcoming a nominee is.
You have good justification for dumping this whole thing.
