Just got home. What was the tone so far of the opening statements? Does anyone here think the Rats will filibuster?

The tone? Let's see. The dims whined about women's rights and imperial presidency, yadda yadda yadda. Some of the Republicans were surprisingly blunt. Senator Brownback talked about babies being aborted because of a positive Down's Syndrome test and how that was a tragedy. Senator Coburn got rather teary when talking about protecting the unborn. Even Lindsey Graham was on a roll, saying that Teddy Kennedy was hardly the person to talk about a conservative as out of the mainstream.

They even have less of a leg to stand on, after the resounding voices of the pro-Alito Senators. So, if they somehow think it is in their better interests to filibuster, they will look even more stupid than normal.

Unless something unexpected happens to sway some pubbies, the dems don't have the votes regardless of what Schumer threatens.
