Interestingly, somewhere around 2/3 of divorces are initiated by the wife. The popular stereotype of the husband dumping the wife for the hot new trophy bride is not usually the reality.

No, the reality is that that marriages are usually mutually failed, and women get around to the paperwork more often because men would leave it undone for years. They don't have a reason to finish it. Women more often do!

Women are hard to understand. Especially the ones who burn their bras, then ask for support.

Buzzer!!!!

While there were contributions from me for my divorce, my wife of 25 years just decided that she wanted to be "free".

She suggested counseling. Being a guy, I initially resisted, but agreed to her terms. She wanted a Christian counselor (I wasn't born again at the time). She wanted to choose the counselor. I agreed. When I went for my first solo meeting, she asked how it went. When I told her it went fine and I believed I could work with him she then claimed we were conspiring against her.

When she suggested that we needed to seperate so she "could have some space", I suggested that doing that would only drive the wedge further rather than provide a quiet healing. She told me I was wrong. Of course, after a week of being gone she pretty much kicked up her heals.

I found a place to stay for free, lived on about $30.00 per week and had all my paychecks deposited in an account she could control in order to allow her to continue to pay the mortgage and ultilities and so forth.

She began to hide money and cash stock options because friends told her I was doing the same to her. Since she handled all the bills and prepared our tax returns she knew all the accounts and sources of income. No mail was diverted. She still got all my retirement statements. She saw all savings account informatin and saw no withdraws. No new accounts were openned. What could I open them with? $30.00 a week?

She said she was a bible believing Christian, but that God would want her to be "happy". Her friends told her that while there was no legal reason to leave, it was still ok because she needed to be "free".

Of course when I finally had enough and my free ride was running out, I started to push her to file the papers. It was after she said there was no chance for reconcilliation. Finally several months later, she did get around to the paperwork to execute what she wanted. The reason for the tardiness? She admitted it was going to be hard to live without the income I depositing and allowing her to live on.
