Baig, usually spelled Beg, is a radical Islamist usually credited with igniting the war in Kashmir following the end of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. He and another Pakistani Islamist radical General Hamid Gul were attendees at the Popular Arab and Islamic Conference that would meet in Khartoum in the early nineteen nineties. The two saw to it that former Arab-Afghans and Al Qaeda initiates were well armed and received support from the Pakistani ISI (military intelligence service).
