Ramona was Art's 2nd wife, and he was nuts about her.

This toooootally sucks. They met at a radio station, when Ramona was still in the business and he was still married to his first (his first marriage was a shotgun wedding of sorts). I think Ramona was a station General Manager, or something. Apparently she was pretty wild about him, too.

The last 5 years has been quite bad to Art, actually. Some LV homo teacher raped his son some years back, and that teacher turned out to be HIV positive. What's more, the teacher KNEW of his HIV status at the time. I think that tests six months later proved Art's son did not end up contracting HIV, thankfully.

In spite of all that, Art did not go on to voice the kind of antipathy to homosexuals that I believe might be warranted, under the circumstances. I think this forbearance speaks to Art's good character.

What is more, at the time Art was dealing with this, there were some twisted shortwave radio fans who somehow latched onto the idea that Art was MOLESTING kids with absolutely no proof at all.

They were calling him up on his show and VOICING this stupid accusations --thank God for the tape delay. Still, the experience got to him, and I think he had arrived at a financial point that he didn't really have to put up with that kind of $hit.

So in summary:

1. His son got raped by a homo
2. He was the target of elaborate defamation of character
3. His beloved wife died

This is A LOT of bad stuff to put up with, and I feel sorry as hell for Art. I really like Art, and even if I, too, do not believe his show's material (like Art), I really like the guy.

I have never heard him wish ill on anyone --ever.

God gave Art a pretty special ability. I hope he never goes away. Even though he's rightfully crazy about his privacy, I feel like I KNOW him.

He also has some serious back problems, which I believe was the reason for his semi-retirement.

I haven't listened to the show for years so don't know if that problem has been taken care of or not.

wow

you take a thread about Art's wife passing and turn it into a "homo" bashing thread.

Kick of YOUR high heels, remove your lipstick and take off your wig a while ... relax! Talk about over compensating ..

Thanks for an interesting summary that puts things into a better light. Art was an amateur radio operator and was always promoting the hobby, not acting the part of a broadcast professional snob.

While I have poked fun at C2C callers & antics in the past, this news is very sad and condolences to someone who obviously loved his wife very much. Thats something you don't hear about as often nowadays, especially from the left coast.

It is so very sad for Art to have this worst thing happen. I've been a long-time listener to his program, lots of it rather silly, but also entertaining, and some of it quite engrossing, esp. the interviews he did with the late Fr. Malachi Martin. Of course I always loved hearing about his beloved cats, and how they came to be a part of his and Ramona's household, and the stories he'd tell about them.

There is no reason we can understand why such a harmless man should have to suffer the troubles he has had to endure, but my prayers go out to him - may he find some peace and solace in the days ahead.

You forgot Art's own health problems. His back trouble was so bad for awhile that he was forced to retire.
