On January 4, 2006 at 5:00 p.m. (PST) the Rose Bowl Game will host the BCS National Championship, between USC and Texas once again showcasing the best of collegiate football in "The Granddaddy of Them All."® The Rose Bowl will be broadcast exclusively on ABC and on ESPN radio.
I agree. No contest. I also think Vince is better equipped than frazier was (obviosuly I mean without the blood clots) to make some major noise on the next level.
To be fair, every first round QB is just an educated crap shoot. When Manning was drafted, many felt that Ryan Leif was the superior QB.
It's just really hard to tell. Arm strength is one very good objective measure however, but I don't know how Lienhart measures up in this category.
In college, touch passes and floaters are very effective. In the NFL, every player is quick so most throws have to have some zip behind them. This is why a lot of Miami and Florida QBs did so well in college but were ineffective in college.
Drafting just on arm strength has it's own disadvantages though as it can lead you to a Ryan Lief and other such QBs that physical skills but cannot mentally handle the much faster and greatly more complex NFL game.
I pray to God Jeff Bowden isn't the heir apparent. Bobby is legendary and all, but their are limits to devotion. There is simply no consituency for Jeff B to take over when Bobby retires... the only people that want that are our opponents and their fans.
I think Miami's defense was better than USC's
Err, well, to be honest, Leaf was mentally unprepared for a challenging game of checkers, nevermind the NFL...
This should read "but were ineffective in the NFL"
I dont know, I think they are very close. Vince may be a little better of a passer... Frazier was probably a little better at running people over :D although Yound does it good too :)
I was referring to the Nebraska - Florida game.
He was the quintessential BMOC. :)
Frazier was basically a running/option QB that could pass a little if he really had to.
Young's passing skills seem to be pretty well developed. At this point, I think he is a much more effective and accurate passer than Michael Vick. I have no idea how well he is at reading defenses though.
But Ken Dorsey....! LOL. Well, he is getting paid some decent money and is a pro QB. There must be a gi-normous drop off for some GM to scoop the likes of Dorsey up.
I predict this regarding those guys in the pros.
Leinert will do well in the NFL but probably not as well as Carson Palmer. Young is not the pro passer you need and will get the you know what kicked out of him ala Steve McNair or Dante Culpepper. A running quarterback just will not survive in the NFL.
White will not succeed and Bush will be a standout for 3-5 years before he's beaten to a pulp and out. Remember that guy at Denver (Terrell?). Could be wrong there and I hope I am. He's explosive and I'd like to watch him for a long time.
That huge lineman for SC has a bright pro career. As well, that DB Huff for Tx.
An FS team with even half an offense would whipped them.
You're right...the BCS got lucky this year.
How do you explain Bernie Kosar?
The guy was a frikken dork, with a weak arm, no legs and all he did was win.
I agree. By staying a year he was able to have a great time and get laid by every hot girl at USC - which there are plenty of those.
He did cost himself a few million dollars though as he would have certainly been the #1 pick in last year's draft. He also took a huge risk - one injury would have cost him his career.
If a player can go in the top 10, he should always leave for the NFL. The chance of injury in football is too great.
Doh... thanks for the correction. :D
how about Young at Reciever or Tightend? The talent is to great to pass up I said the same thing last year before the draft and wanted the Bears to draft Matt Jones! Imagine if the Bears had Matt Jones right now... We didn't need Benson!
LOL - he was the prominent exception that was going to name. I think he won because he mentally understood the game very well which more than made up for his lack of arm strength.
I was thinking more of the Florida QBs like Shane Matthews, Terry Dean and Danny Wuerffel and Miami QBs like Walsh, Erikson and Torreta.
