My wife was thouroughly disgusted at Keith Jackson and swore she heard him say just before a break, "The Trojans have to something, dammit!".

We both made a over/under on how many times Fouts and Jackson would refer to that 'phantom' touchdown for the rest of the night. We counted 11 times. The over/under was 13.

If there was instant replay in the 70's, Charles White and USC wouldn't have had back to back RB's and the Victors would have been looking very good.

But my boy's got to stay up tonight and root for their Horns! Only four hours past their bed time.

touche. I hadn't had a chance to look up the stats from that '96 game. Yes, Young's yardage numbers tonight were greater, but subjectively.... Frazier was just as dominating as Young was tonight. You are quite correct that it was Nebraksa defense that produced the blowout in '96. But all that aside, tonights game featured 2 very good teams. In the end I think Young was the difference.

Yeah, but I think Jeff Bowden needs to be a part of Ann Bowden's Take Your Son to Work day instead of Bobby's. As long as he's there, we're effectively screwed.

Seriously, Vince Young moved on them effortlessly.

Agreed

I think potential recruits are reluctant to go with us because of bad coaching. Our offensive play calling is terrible... it's a frustrating program to be a part of. By the way, Marc Richt isn't so swell either. He loses lots of big games...he did with us too.

The only way you can know if one team is "better" than another is for them to play a game.

Wasn't FSU's offensive line completely destroyed by injury this year though?

I'm not saying that Jeff Bowden is a good coordinator, but without an offensive line it is hard to tell. The FSU running game was almost non-existant.

I'm glad it was a nice night of victory for the family. The last time this happened for Longhorn nation was 35 years ago. This night you had with your family will be one you'll have forever. I'm soooo glad Fouts and Jackson are big losers tonight.

Yeah, but we've had horrific play caling for a long, long time... in big games... Our O has been largely impotent in big games for several years now. Bowden needs to go... And for some ungodly reason we are recruiting white quarterbacks who can't throw and black quarterbacks who can't run.... what the Hell!??!!

When I mentioned the emergence of Miami and UGA, I should have been more specific and said "with very good recruiters at Miami and UGA". I don't think that either Coker or Bowden are world beaters at coaching - they mostly win through recruiting. There's nothing wrong with that though since most good schools do it that way.

FSU used to be able to cherry pick Georgia and especially south Georgia for a lot of FSU's best players. Richt is a very good recruiter and has put a big dent into that.

The same can be said of Miami since Butch Davis and Larry Coker have been there. While Miami was down, FSU really only had to compete with Florida and to a lesser extent Tennessee for the top flight Florida talent. Now it seems like Miami take a lion's share of the bluechips - though Urban Meyer seems to be doing extremely well.

Sorry, this was a better game. Young was the difference maker. He has more rushing yards than Frazier had and more passing than he had. And he got them against a better team-- a team so many say is the best ever.

Leinart = Cade McNown.

Joey Bag O' Donuts went #3 four years ago. Someone can make the same mistake with Matt.

I think you're probably right-- we have lots of more competition. And our monumentous big game nationally televised chokes in the last couple of years don't help our cause.

Do you think that Bobby is trying to groom Jeff for the head coaching job?

I think that Mickey Andrews does a great job on the defensive side. With a very good offensive coordinator like Cutcliffe at Tennessee, FSU could regain their glory years form pretty easily.

With the talent at FSU being lower than in the past it the exposes coaching limitations.

I don't think Leinart will be great at the next level. I wouldn't pick him.

I think that Vince Young had a better game than Frazier. The Nebraska offensive line was completely dominant in that game and anyone who touched the ball was able to run at will. Nebraska's defense also shocked the UF players into just rolling up into a ball.

In this game, USC's defensive line was very competive with the offensive line of Texas.

No, our coaching is worse and our huge chokes have made us lose our swagger-- our living room appeal with the elite HS athletes. I think the resurgence of the coolness of the Deep South among black youth is important too. Lots of kids are staying at home and embracing their Southernness. That player crying doing the Longhorn sign after the game says it all-- they did it for Texas. For H-Town. For whatever little town they're from. Some want to do it for GA...hear the new Ludacris song called Georgia?
