Pamela's guardianship renewed for another six months! Please see "Scott's News" for more information. (continued at link)
http://scottsfight.com/Scott's%20News.htm January 3, 2006
Today was the long-anticipated status hearing on guardianship for Scott.
The hearing took place in judge's chambers with Pamela and her attorneys and Eliza and her attorneys. Pamela presented the judge with information that she has now filed with the court to have Scott declared "partially capacitated". This means, at the very least, that he would then be allowed to indicate his preferences for his social environment, such as who is allowed to visit. He has repeatedly indicated that he does not want to see Eliza, but he does wants to see his son.
Pamela also informed the judge that, after Scott is legally determined to be "partially capacitated", they would be filing for a divorce for him. [emphasis mine]
Eliza indicated to the judge that she would fight any divorce proceedings.
The final item that Pamela presented to the judge is that Scott is scheduled for surgery to close his tracheotomy opening, which should allow him to regain his ability to speak and make sound.
Based on all the above information, Judge Wilkes ruled to grant Pamela another six months of full guardianship of Scott. This will be a crucial time for Pamela and Scott, as they continue to work, not only for Scott's recovery, but for him to regain the right and ability to truly "speak for himself".
Please continue to join us in prayer and other support for Scott and Pamela as they continue the battle for LIFE.

I can remember when many of us from around the country called St. Petersburg Diocese Bishop Robert N. Lynch. He not only didn't helped Terri, but shunned priests who DID try to help her.

One of the days of the vigil, an older K of C man, with some association to the Bp. came and I talked with him. He said he was sure the Bp. and all the cronies would be right out there that day and he just wanted to get there first. Many hours later, the poor dejected guy walked away, alone. Not a soul from that office came.

That is so sad.
The K of C man must have felt so demoralized.

Yes, I asked him about the Bp. and he assured me the Bp. would do the right thing and show up, any moment. I guess he figured the Bp. would show everybody they were wrong.
It was upsetting to see.

Had another one today. A guy mentioned making a curtain speech. I asked him "what language do curtains speak"?
I'm sure he'll find it quite amusing. Now, I'm exhausted - that was two today. Not enough material to go on the road yet.

The guy who was beating out Terri's heartbeat on the drum did show up at Tookie Williams' vigil outside of San Quentin? think it was San Quentin. I recognized him when he was beating out Tookie's heartbeat. At least the guy is consistent and he was a kindred spirit.

I remember the guy and the haunting sound. I didn't associate it. Yes, consistent, unlike the others.

Maybe one of us can carry the curtain theme for a pun or two. I can think of one topic.

OK. we have an article that makes the point that one book is considered the most controversial by several journal article authors. OK. :) One thing the Wiki entry doesn't try to rebut is Lindy's involvement in the eugenics movement. Indeed, acknowledges it. Corroboration, actually. Something else jumps out of that entry:
"his support for the America First Committee was merely giving voice to the heartfelt, if arguably misguided, sentiments of the majority of Americans."
We're back to that infamous pre-Pearl Harbor poll again. And as to America today, all things old are new again...

The contributions of Sanger, her associates, and her financial backers has been discussed and well documented on several Terri threads right here on Freepin' Republic. If FR search doesn't work well, Google will, especially if you make "Terri Schiavo" one of the search terms.
The existence of pre-Hitler German Social Darwinism proponents doesn't negate the existence of prior non-German ones, nor does it negate their influence. Political Philosophers - especially those with an agenda to promote a movement - always build on the work of their predecessors.
"Apart from anything else, Haeckel assumed the mantel of Darwin's great German supporter - he called his position "Darwinismus" - and if Gasman's charge is well taken we seem to have a line from Down House (Darwin's home) and the Origin right through to Auschwitz and the Holocaust."
Yes, Germany had homegrown proponents of Social Darwinism. The article you cite indeed verifies that the origins of German Social Darwinism go right back to Darwin himself, who was English. Darwin himself didn't get into trying to apply survival of the fittest to human society. The earliest proponents of applying social darwinism were in England and the US. Basically it was at the behest of their "robber baron" financiers to justify the idea that viewing the idea of a person as commodity helped the common good, mostly economically. Haeckel et. al. built on Darwin, and also built on all their social darwinist predecessors.

We have the benefit of hindsight. I believe eugenics was viewed differently and less ominously back then -- more a fashion than a passion. My grandfather thought well of eugenics. He wouldn't have hurt a fly. He wasn't political. To him it was "modern" and "scientific." He liked to be modern and scientific.

But Haeckel started in right with the publication of Origin in 1859. How can you be an earlier Darwinist than that? He was way before Sanger.

Following up on the impeachment of J. Greer is underway. Whether it is successful or not is another matter altogether. The correct dept. to contact in Florida is called The Justice Dept. I don't have other contact info at this late time.
I've been making puns about curtains which caused some tension. (get it?)
