WASHINGTON - A federal judge Friday loosened the restrictions on John W. Hinckley Jr., allowing the hospitalized presidential assailant to spend seven overnight visits with his parents in Williamsburg, Va.
Hinckley, who shot President Ronald Reagan in 1981,
had been permitted to leave St. Elizabeths Hospital in Washington for outings around the nation's capital. He wanted to make longer trips and travel outside the area to his parents' community in southeastern Virginia.
U.S. District Judge Paul L. Friedman ruled Hinckley could be allowed three, three-night visits and another four, four-night visits.
"He is not permitted to leave one or both parents' supervision at any time during the course of the conditional release" except when the hospital deems it necessary, Friedman ruled.
The government had opposed Hinckley's requests to visit Williamsburg, a three-hour drive from the forensic hospital where he has been held since 1982.
When Hinckley shot Reagan and three other people in 1981 as the president emerged from a downtown hotel, he was suffering from major depression and a psychotic disorder that led to an obsession with actress Jodie Foster.
Hinckley, found not guilty by reason of insanity in 1982, said he shot Reagan to impress Foster.
His doctors have said his depression and psychosis are in full remission.

Let us know too.
We only have pitchforks and shovels.........
For the past ten years, John Hinckley has dated Leslie deVeau, whom he met when she too was a mental patient at St. Elizabeth's. The couple takes daily walks, often lunch together, and share a mutual love of books. According to John's mother, Leslie "handles so many of John's problems. She's just been our angel." But deVeau is hardly an angel. While deVeau is a former social worker who currently works at St. Elizabeth's hospital aiding outpatient recovery, in 1982 she shot and killed her ten-yer-old daughter. Distraught, deVeau then attempted to commit suicide by shooting herself in the left shoulder. Her left arm, however, suffered massive injuries and was amputated. Like John, deVeau pled insanity at her trial and the jury adjudged her not guilty by reason of insanity. She was released after spending four years at St. Elizabeth's. As of 1998, Leslie and John have been dating for ten years.

Horse puckey.

Ants gotta eat too.
Oh, I don't know.. I'm fairly imprecise and imaginative.
We better stop before we get a visit from the feds. ;)
Right, I'm tired of giving those dudes advice anyway. ;-)
He's got rich parents who don't have to spend any of their money keeping the freak in good digs.
Can I pay him a visit?
If you have ever noticed, his parents officially support him, but they sure as hell act like they want nothing to do with him like he is a burden.
Kind of like a "my son is a worthless crackhead and piece of garbage, but he is our son and we love him for who he is even though we think he is crap".
Listening to his family (especially his brother) you get the feeling they feel obligated to spend money to help him, but don't want him anywhere outside of a hospital.
The Leftwing kooks try to make a conspiracy theory out of the fact that his family and the Bush family are actually friends and are pretty close.
I think the media played down the fact that he was a disturbed nut who was rebelling more against his family, and played up his sick obsession with Jodie Foster (they also totally ignored he fact that he was a one time neo-nazi and socialist with homicidal urges).
Right, I'm tired of giving those dudes advice anyway. ;-)
You and me both.
When they show up here I usually swipe at least one tac light!
