The ultimate news story from Fox: (I wish!)

Or:

The FBI has executed a number of search warrants on the offices of The New York Times, DNC Headquarters, Jay Rockefeller, and others regarding the NSA security leaks...HAPPY NEW YEAR!

You mean like "freedom fries" and "mushroom cloud"?

You would "raise strong protest"? I guess I'll just have to take you at your word on that. Perhaps we are a "universe away from witnessing" abuses of power because most of them are still a secret. God help us if Hillary ever gets elected.

There is a thread on it here, read it last night, here is a link to the actual article:

BTW, when looking for the link I came across something we've forgotten, but should make us take a look at him for the leak -- he has a rep in Nevada for leaking like a sieve and it was he who went on TV and said Osama had been killed in Pakistan Earthquake -- something he was not authorized to say even if it was true.

The White House ... President Bush ... leaked by the NYTs

The Slimes did not firmly establish that "hundreds" of US citizens were surveilled. Your statement is a lie. It didn't even establish that conversations were monitored (capturing the event of an electrical connection from international phone A to domestic phone B is not "monitoring a conversation" and is in no way illegal).

In any case you have not addressed the issue that naturalized citizens who communicate with terrorists are in de facto breach of their fraudulent citizenship, and are therefore not even citizens.

None of this is detailed in the Slimes article, which is a mishmash of innuendo and guesswork of which you have taken the bait, hook, line, and sinker.

the investigation was announced after the evidence was collected IMHO.

I certainly hope so, because I would love to see a few NYT editors on a chain gain picking up garbage with pointy sticks on the side of I-93.

So what exactly protects journalists from prosecution for leaking classified materials?

I think the issue is that there is nothing constitutional protecting them from revealing their sources, i.e., they can be held and jailed in contempt of court.

Which will close with the MTP round table of reporters who will do their best to defend the NY Times.

There are also CIA leaks and those may be under the purview of the ongoing Independent Council investigation

Let's hope not. Fitzgerald couldn't honestly investigate his way out of a paper bag.

Sorry to be a cynic about this but my memories of Clinton DOJ were much a do about political posturing and bluffing. The most recent hand off by the DOJ into the suppose outing of a supposed covert agent doesn't quite fit anyplace but political posturing and bluffing.
