In the midst of the Jewish holiday of heroics, Hanukkah, we were once again warned of the Iranian bomb. One gets a creeping suspicion that sounding the bomb alert was meant to hide the government's shortcomings in view of the Qassam rockets and Katyushas.
There is no doubt Iran would be happy if we disappeared from the face of the earth. But why should it mess with the Western world by dropping a nuclear bomb when the Jews are withdrawing from the Palestinians, who are attacking them at home, and displaying helplessness in face of Hezbollah, in Lebanon. When the Jews lose the will to fight, it's better to continue the war of attrition than use the bomb.
OC Northern Command Major General Udi Adam clearly expressed, on Tuesday, Israel's lack of desire to fight to win, which has become a national behavioral pattern in recent decades, especially against the terror organizations at home. Asked what needs to be done about the Katyusha fire, he responded: The Lebanese government must impose its authority. When Qassam rockets are simultaneously fired toward a training base in Zikim, a kindergarten in Kibbutz Sa'ad and strategic facilities on the outskirts of Ashkelon, one does not know whether to laugh or cry because we have forgotten nothing and learned nothing. Here is a commander in the Israel Defense Forces saying it is the enemy's responsibility, not his own, to prevent fire in the region whose security he is in charge of.

But an entire state has fallen under the spell of pullouts and defensive measures and does not want to listen to the voice of sanity.

Warning! This is a high-volume ping list.
They've been fighting for an awful long time......maybe they are just tired of fighting...
"But an entire state has fallen under the spell of pullouts and defensive measures and does not want to listen to the voice of sanity."
Agreed. Especially when there are relatively simple measures, such as shutting off the water and power supply to Gaza, which would put pressure on the population there to stop the rocket attacks.
But Israel cannot even muster the gumption to do that??
When are they going to erect a statue to Neville Chamberlain??
Could be. We haven't been fighting very long, and many Americans are already ready to back down.
I would say they are more tired of fighting halfway. If you make the decision to fight, fight to win. Beat the other side into submission so they have no choice but to yield. Overwhelming force.
There has been this theory for a while now about "appropriate levels of response". They peck at you, you peck at them. This is why wars do not end anymore.
What is needed is an inappropriate response. One that says "You do this to us and we will wipe you off the map!"
It is obvious that Lebanon, Syria, Iran etc..will never respect Israel.
Since it appears that is the case, Israel no other choice but to make them fear Israeli reprisal. If they do not fear reprisal due to "appropriate levels of response" they will keep pecking. They have to be given a reason to change.
"I would say they are more tired of fighting halfway."
I'm with you on this one. It's years of restrictions and being the world's villain.
Why not just surrender and get it over with already?
And that would be their decision to make.
You would have to ask them that, as I am not an Israeli.

Not feasable, though the power can probably be turned off when the bill is unpaid, as it usually is. The US would be leading the pack of critics, most of whom would be screaming about war crimes and boycotts.
You are absolutely spot-on! And we are increasingly guilty of the same thing these days. Americans need to wake up! A pull put from Iraq would be a strategic disaster.
There's growing evidence that the enemy is in our midst, planning and storing what it needs to strike. And what do we do? We worry and fret about the President authorizing surveillance on suspected terrorists and mosques.
Before it's too late, we need to be fully prepared to strike with deadly, permanent force wherever the source originates from. We need to overhaul our immigration policies and we need to stop being so dammed politically-correct.
You expressed an opinion on this article, so follow through. What do you think they should to if they are "tired of fighting"? 1. Surrender already and get it over with. 2. Hit the enemy with everything they have.
I'd opt for door #2, but the Ones In Charge are so eager to please the U.N. and the E.U. and G.W.B. that they are slowly crawling through Door #1.
I doubt if that will happen in my lifetime. I think they're just playing the old "Rope-A-Dope.
There is no follow-thru necessary. I said, maybe they are tired of fighting, and that is all.
You don't need to know much about Israeli politics to know that this is a silly rant, kind of like what you see here on FR sometimes about the whole country becoming wussified and losing its will to survive.
The Israelis are fighters and survivors. We learn a lot from them about how to take the fight to the enemy. They don't make a big deal about it when they pursue and kill Arab terrorists and that is probably a sound policy.
Isn't that the KADIMA election slogan?
The Israelis need to find a way to ignore Saruman's voice.
