The earlier King Edward, Queen Victoria's son, was known as "Bertie" until he assumed the throne.
Personally, I think Charles fits in fine with the other Charleses.
Well, Chas. I was as pompous as a monarch as he was inept as a general. And Chas. II was not much besides a playboy. I believe Prince Charles can match that pedigree.
