Oh. THAT. Well, car rental agencies ALWAYS give automatics to "foreigners." They suck up more gas at the lights and in traffic jams. When I visit the States, I'll remember that - I'll demand a manual!!

You can always tell them what you want. You don't HAVE to take an automatic. You can even order a pickup or SUV...and the brand/model you prefer. Of course, you may have to pay extra, but still....
