I think it depends on what part of the country one lives in. In the west, where trucks (and sometimes cars) are "workhorses," most of them are standard. And a lot of the ranch vehicles are diesel. I'm sure in areas where power isn't needed, automatics are more common.

This is a pretty big country, Irish. And not all of it is "city."

Hi, 'Face. Just stopping by while online.

My experience follows I_T's comments, though it is somewhat biased. I have no recollections of seeing automatics in England, Germany or France, including colleagues' private cars and rentals. In the US, all the rentals I've had are automatics, as are colleagues' cars.

For my part, I was happy to find a stickshift 4WD.
