I have never claimed to know how old the earth is. I have no idea and I don't think the Bible makes it clear so I pass. However, the Bible makes it perfectly clear that God is the Creator.

Luke says there are 20 generations between Adam and Abraham and lists 55 generations between Abraham and Jesus.

So, assuming a conservative 3 billion years for life on this planet, thats an average lifespan of 40,000,000 years.

So, if you do not take liberties with interpretations, either the the earth is a few thousand years old or people used to live much much longer.

If you do take liberties with interpretations, how can you say that the whole origin of man story is not symbolic. Not saying that God did not create everything, but that it has no bearing on evolution.
