Don't forget the NYT Seymour Hersh article about the raising of at least part of K-129, the Soviet nuclear missile sub, by the Glomar Explorer (1975, only a year after the event).

Also, the Pentagon Papers publication must be remembered.

Thanks for mentioning the Glomar incident--I considered including that but didn't want to get too long. In that case Hersh went ahead with the article after CIA Director Colby specifically asked him not to.
