Doesn't this seem different than a usual speech?

WHY IS THIS "BREAKING NEWS"???

I hope it is going to be a 'different' speech, but Fox News 'bangs the gong' on just about anything these days, so who knows?

Ok they finally posted a story to it...

"It's expected the president will comment on reports that surfaced last week about how, after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, he allowed the National Security Agency to engage in domestic surveillance without court-ordered warrants."

It seems you are upset with this. It is breaking news when the President holds a news conference because it is an important event.

When he requests the presence of the press corps for a formal conference with 2 hours notice - so they cannot coordinate their hit questions - it is breaking news, to be followed on FR by a Live Thread.

"Doesn't this seem different than a usual speech?"

And it is different.

It's an impromptu news conference, which is different than the ready-made script he read from the last time.

Frankly, I believe a news conference is more effective in delivering a message and informing the American people than reading from a text. A news conference requires thinking; a speech does not.
