Agreed that we should pressure them very hard but even if they voted for cloture on the the Patriot Acts, we would still be short to get the required 60 votes.

It's incumbent on you to convince your fellow FReepers that this is a worthy effort. A fair number of things I was not comfortable with regarding the "Patriot Act". Some parts were a no-brainer.

Sure W's administration hasn't abused the Patriot Act, but think of when 'Toon was POTUS. Think of the next Dem President.

FReepers as a rule don't hand over rights to the government without a DAMN good reason.

I don't care if W wants it. Before I lend my support, I was a point-by-point explanation of why these three Republicans were wrong. Not just "us" vs "them". That's partisan garbage.

Did you omit Larry Craig for any particular reason?

We'll be hearing from Murkowski in person next week, and her newsletter also goes into considerable detail on current Congressional matters. It would be well to have a built-in sunset to such acts as the Patriot Act. In the wrong hands such acts could lead directly to totalitarianism.

I don't know why people speculate about Hagel running for President - he is absolutely one of the worst Senators the pubbies have. Sununu has become a total wimp. and Murkowski continues to prove she was not worthy for replacing her dad, not because of nepotism, but because of pure incompetence & susceptibility to liberal press approval of everything she does.

Don't trust RINO's to do "the right" thing.

I just emailed Sununu's office. He was a Club for Growth candidate. I helped get him elected. I feel betrayed by that jerk.

I'm not going to get into it with Hagel or Snowe, neither of whom I like but neither of whom I hate like some around here, but Sununu is absolutely NOT an anti-American type.

Sununu has legitimate concerns about civil rights. In this case, from what I know, I disagree with him. But his patriotism (and I mean real patriotism, not Kerry and Dashle 'patriotism') absolutely shouldn't be attacked for his stand here. He's a great senator, and if he's doing it this way, it's because he honestly believes it violates civil rights, and again, by that, I mean real civil rights, not ACLU 'Civil Rights'.

Right, because they oppose the Patriot Act and the will of His Holiness Dubya - they're unpatriotic and they surely hate mom and apple pie too.

Clown...

Do you equate support for the Patriot Act with patriotism? I would argue that the Patriot Act is, in many instances, unpatriotic. I'm against making the provisions of the Patriot Act permanent. I can support them only on a temporary basis with short term renewals.

George W. Bush won't be president forever. What if Hillary's elected in 2008 (God Forbid!!!)? Look at the havoc she's wrought with the FBI files she's already seen and copied...can you imagine her with the Patriot Act at her disposal?

Actually, they ARE the patriotic Senators. If you think otherwise, and if the bill passes, just wait until Hitlery gets hold of it in 3 years.
