Who dropped out of the race vs Hillary for Senator?
Beating her is exactly what he needs to do to establish credibility on the National stage.
Right now, he may be very well liked, but he's just another ex mayor of NYC to most of the country and has no experience outside of that city that I'm aware of.

He was never in the race for senator against Hillary.
It was media driven - he never actually declared he was running and pulled out.
It was assumed he would run, then he got prostate cancer.
