U.S. Satellites Outnumber Rest of World

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The United States has 413 satellites in space snooping for the government, checking on the weather and relaying the latest pop music, a new database says. That's more than the 382 the rest of the world has spinning above the Earth.

The inventory, developed by the Union of Concerned Scientists and released Wednesday, provides details on some of the Pentagon's most secret satellites, which may gather images in the dark or take high-resolution pictures from 12,000 miles away.

"Until now, the general public didn't have easy access to information about all active satellites," said Dr. Laura Grego, a Cambridge astrophysicist who was on a team that spent several years compiling information on the nearly 800 active satellites. "No one owns space, so everyone has a right to know what's up there."

The statement isn't ridiculous - everyone has a right to know what's in space as long as they go up and look for themselves - what is ridiculous is the idea that everyone has a right to be told what's up there.

Um, my guess is that there's even MORE US satellites up there than they know about.

And one of them is hovering over their heads as we spesk, recording their comings and goings.....

The BEST lines in the article talk about figuring out the orbits of the Lacrosse satellites based on embroidered patches, then tracking them with backyard amateur astronomers.

Guess 36 years of pot use tends to have an adverse effect on cognitive abilities after all, doesn't it?

This probably has nothing to do with the fact the the US was one of the only two Nations that for fourty years could put anything into orbit.

Hey shooter, You are the typical liberal moron. Your country (USA) is the only country on earth with the will and ability to defend freedom; It's morons like you who think they are elite and progressive who insist that this great country(USA) has to fight with one hand behind there back. Socialist Marxist fools like you need to look at Canada to see what your idiotic philosophy does for a country. We have a corrupt liberal government whom we will probably never get rid of. This will cause the country to fall apart (Several provinces want to separate) However we don't have to fear being invaded by anyone because the US will protect us (Free in spit of our ingrate ungrateful attitude)we have free Medicare but all the good doctors are in the US, we have no army to speak of (Who needs it the US would never let anything happen to this "enlightened country" my fervent hope is that the US never gets sick of this silly little "enlightened Marxist country" and my fear is that they will get sick of it. This is not a great way to live. There is so much more to tell you about how liberals have screwed up this country, and I will bit by bit.

Eight hundred satellites, and eventually they will all come crashing back down to Earth. I wonder how many of them are nuclear powered?

The Death Star will soon be completed making these antique satellites useless, then we will really show the Democrats we mean business. The first target, Hollyweird! lol
