SAN FRANCISCO (BCN)
A man fatally shot in San Francisco's Mission District Tuesday has been identified as 21-year-old Robert Mariano of San Francisco, according to the San Francisco Medical Examiner's office.
Mariano was shot shortly before 5 p.m. in the 1300 block of Hampshire Street, according to San Francisco police Officer Maria Oropeza.
"It appears the victim was in some sort of argument with another person when the suspect walked up to the victim and shot him,'' Oropeza said Tuesday night.
The man arguing with Mariano apparently knew and may have been friends with the triggerman, Oropeza said Tuesday.
Another San Francisco police officer reported today that the shooting is thought to have been gang-related.
Mariano was brought to the nearby San Francisco General Hospital with at least one gunshot wound, Oropeza said Tuesday. He was pronounced dead in the hospital.
The shooting brings the city's 2005 homicide total to 93, up from 83 at this time last year.
