Yep, Army has more boats than the navy, and the navy has more planes than the airforce.
The Coast Guard is NOT a part of the navy.
Does anyone else find these numbers STAGGERING? I admit that I am not exactly in touch with what it costs to run an ad campaign. I hope these figures include the actual costs for ad time.
I always thought the slogan meant it was about unity, teamwork, etc. An Army of One- not one individual, but one team.

No matter what it meant- it's stupid. One hopes they get rid of co-ed boot camp next. My son is infantry and thanks God every day there are no women in combat- his boot camp was strictly men. The difference between regular and infantry boot camp is incredible.
Most belong to The Corps of Engineers, I'm just full of factiods.

It was silly. Why would anyone want to be an "army" of one? Isn't the point that an army is a group?
I used to encounter that attitude back in the 90s, and to a man it was from senior NCOs. I'll never forget (as a newly minted buck sergeant) going toe to toe with an old E7 who was a negligent and incompetent slug. I pulled him aside after one particularly egrigious incident, for an NCO to NCO talk. The usual 'you need to set a better example for the troops, and start pulling your weight' chat. He brazenly laughed me off and boasted that the Army was nothing more than a welfare check to him.
I was shocked, but it dawned on me that he was entirely right. There wasn't a damn thing I could do about it, and so long as he kept showing up to work on time, there wasn't a damn thing the Army was going to do to him. He'd never make E8, but he couldn't have cared less.
I haven't heard anyone take that line for a long time, though. It's kind of like the 'I just joined for the college money' types. You used to hear that quite a bit, years back. They've pretty much cleared out by now.

It’s a common misconception, and one perpetuated by our “esteemed” MSM. Many times we would be interviewed by a reporter about a mission here in the States, and plainly state we were US Army Transportation Corps and the vessel was a US Army LCU.
When the articles appear in print or the local news show, they invariably referred to us as “Corps of Engineers” and the LCU as a “Corps of Engineer barge”.
Please enlighten me on where that little steaming pile of factoids can be found.
Wasn't trying to imply that the Coast Guard was a part of the Navy. I just remembered hearing some little factoid that the Army's "navy" was bigger than someone else's. Just couldn't remember if it was the Navy or the Coast Guard.
I find stuff like that interesting. Speaking of the Coast Guard, I heard that the Coast Guard Academy was the hardest one out of West Point, Naval Academy, USAFA, ...it's smaller and more competative.
Blaming it on the media works for me.

How about letting freepers decide the slogan or retired Army. It would save 1.5 Billion, and be better than what they have had. I like "multitasking for Freedom 24-7", and show how each recruit is able to Jump out of Planes,Scale Buildings,protect the American People home and abroad, and lead the World in fighting the Enemies of the World.
