When I was overseas, the question was: "If this is an army of one, can I go home now?"

We're the Army, and the Marines stole all our cool looking uniforms and we got stuck with this stupid french beanie.

First off, I'm a former Marine myself. But we must remember that the Marines turned down Audie Murphy when he tried to join.

The "Rose Garden" campaign was an early to mid 70's campaign for the Marine Corps not the Army. I am a former Marine Corps recruiter and I started collecting old ad posters while on the street. The Rose Garden poster hung in a frame in my office and now hangs in a frame in my new civilian office. People always get a kick out of it.

The Marine Corps has always used the intangible advertising (i.e. Duty,Honor, Country, Corps) there has never been a Marine Corps ad campaign that focused on tangibles like college money. It has always been about being one of "The Few, The Proud, The Marines.

It was considered one of the most recognizeable tag lines in history. They never should have dropped it.

What?

Marine ad campaigns looked like Dungeons & Dragons commericals. Mythical figures fighting mythical figures.

A week after I received my jump wings, my Airborne buddies and I were in a bar with a bunch of marines and a current Army ad showing Airborne troops came on. We were screaming and dumping beers all over those pussies.

So true. You guys always had the best recruiting themes.

All the ad firm needs to post is "join the military and you don't have to pay taxes"

Shinseki's folly. Could that fetching beret be next? How about coed boot camp? You people are indeed slow but eventually you do get the message.

I never could figure out what possessed Shinseki to cheapen the Ranger beret by handing it out to every swinging anatomical appendage who survived Basic and AIT.
