I hated the original Army of One commercials where it showed the one soldier running to the batlle and everyone in the background was running FROM the battle.

The Navy has a lot of aircraft that don't fly off of carriers.

P-3, EP-3, E-6, to name a few.

I hate to get involved in inter service rivalries, being a civilian who appreciates all branches, but one thing that is never pointed out is that the Continental Marines were disbanded in June of 1798, and The United Sates Marines were not created until July of that year. The Army maintained at least a token force throughout. Since the Articles of Confederation created the United States in 1777, I guess you could say both the Army and Marine Corps could take the title of United States at that time, but the fact remains that the Marines were disbanded, and the Army was not.

Reminds me of the Monty Python sketch about the recruit who wants to quit the army "because it's dangerous, sir!"

"Then why did you join the army, Watkins?"

"For the water-skiing and for the travel, sir. And not for the killing, sir. I asked them to put it on my form, sir - no killing."

Sorry to disappoint, but some of us don't heckel Coasties because 'You have to go out, but you don't have to come back' (Now that sucks for a recruiting slogan). I personnally prefer to dump on Raghead Terrorist who bring fear into the hearts of sheep around the world.

Technically.
But I'm certain it never happened in USMC hearts.

It's all interservice ribbing. Don't take it so seriously. It's sport and pride and competitive strutting. That's what guys ~do~...

Play stirring music while showing scene from famous battles from 1776 onto now. A voice over says - "The United States Army. We have been kickin' arse and takin' names for over two hundred years. No one has ever defeated us on the field of battle. We have rescued Europe twice in one century, ensuring the freedom of millions of people. We have liberated countries and death camps. Our citizen soldiers World War II took on two powerful professional armies and defeated them. The Communists of North Viet Nam had to rely on weakening the America will at home but could never defeat us in the field. We kicked Saddams arse out of Kuwait. We wiped out the Taliban in Afghanistan, ensuring the freedom of millions. We liberated Iraq in three weeks, rescuing millions of people from an insane dictator. Do you have what it takes to be a member of the worlds most prolific winning team? Contact your local recruiter and find out."

Do you think recruitment would rise?

I think the American Army game has helped a lot. It is a great recruiting tool. No, it is not THAT easy to get qualified in the game.

It is one of the best FPS games out there. You should give it a try. Look me up if you do.

Please, I'm a boat driver, If you guys get to put guns on your cargo ships then we have to start crawling around in the mud. Want an ugly picture? Sailors marching! That's why the Navy has the Marines, so sailors don't have to march.

Thanks, buddy, and we hardly ever gave the navy guys any crap when we were towing them back in. :)

Any vet, no matter the branch, still beats a hippy freak (or worse) any day.

When I joined, I score high enough that the recruiter said, "You can go into whatever you want...Computers, Medic, anything."

"I want to be a Recon Scout."

The recruiter was floored. He did not understand why I wanted to be in a combat unit when I could be safe at a computer.

My ability to keep a inch and a half spread with an M-16 was the only thing that kept my Drill Sergent from killing me.
