Delta-aminolevulinic acid dehydratase (ALAD) polymorphism and susceptibility of workers exposed to inorganic lead and its effects on neurobehavioral functions.

The delta-aminolevulinic acid dehydratase (ALAD) polymorphism and bone and blood lead levels in community-exposed men: the Normative Aging Study.

I think it may have been in his genes.

Good catch, neverdom

Looking backwards, LVB's disdain for Rossini seems so misplaced. They were entirely different composers in every way. Except LVB didn't know it. The only thing he knew was that they were competitors for common audiences and critics. It's as if the Beatles worried about the Stones -- both of common origin, R&B, but each representing entirely different takes upon it.

If the professional jealousy spurred Beethoven into the Ninth, then, under the theory of "whatever it takes," so be it.

Rossini himself had a few issues at the apex of his carreer...

OK but I lost it at "We determined the ALAD MspI polymorphism in exon 4 by a polymerase chain reaction restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP)." LOL.

I wonder what the genotype distribution was in Europe in Beethoven's time and did it have a causal effect an human behavior in the past in a similar proportions? Or at all?

I guess I'm wondering that even though we know lead "poisoning" occurred in the past, was it a big deal? Or is it currently being elevated to an importance in the past like global warming is today? Basically a lot of hype.
