It looks like South 31st Street is the edge of town and East 1400 and East 1500 Roads extend 5 and 6 miles into the farmland, respectively. So they have the location of the attack narrowed down to some point along 12 miles or so of country road. Which is to say, not at all.

I grew up in that area. 31st street runs through the "sacred" Baker Wetlands, that marshy environmental jewel that has halted the construction of the Southwest Lawrence traffic way for the past 20+ years. There is a park and some light industry in the area and the road runs along some land owned by Haskell Indian Nations University. The area where the attack is alleged is actually highly traveled (although I don't know how heavy traffic would be at 6:20 am.) It is right on the edge of town.
