Ping! TA!!!!
Also, you'll never hear the Rats talking about getting our troops out of Kosovo.
And Bosnia and Kosovo, too.
Thanks, tried google, didn't get much. In fact, there isn't much at the link you provided either.
My mind is still open to the possibility of such a group, but it is very strange that we don't see it mentioned in the histories of the time (and WWII is one of the most overly written about eras of our time).
Thanks for your thoughts, BooBoo.
Thanks for your service, too!
Please keep your chin up. Good things are happening over there....even if we don't read about'em.
"why are American forces in these nations? Didnt we win? Are we defending French cheese? German beer? Belgian chocolate? " " These nations wont even defend their own national treasures. Why should we? "
PING
Good point. I'm with you. Cut way back, but hang on to most of the bases and just mothball them. Then we can go back without special permission, if need be.
Besides, we need a safe, comfortable base with support and hospital facilities that is closer than CONUS to most of the action. So if we pull way down in Germany, we will probably need to open new facilities in Poland, Rumania, or some place further to the East or South. Preferably a country that is unlikely to take our money and then kick us out or put restrictions on our movements.
google "werwolf" or werewolf. It gives you some interesting articles. Having lived there after the war (Born in Germany 1942), I can vouch for the fact that it did exist. The effectiveness ranges from 100 dead to 1000 killed. Documentation was hard to find since it involved decapitation, (stringing wire across the road) to arson, etc.
Anyway, very interesting.
There is just one thing to consider before we come home from any of these places. Now that nuclear weapons are the choice for destruction by any terrorist group, how do we protect America? For instance, Iran is working around the clock to develop a deliverable nuclear device. They already have a good delivery system available and only need to reduce the size of a warhead for it. What happens when the Iranians call the world's bluff. If you consider this a real threat, what will happen in Europe if we come home and leave these folks to their own devices? Think about it for awhile, and remember there will be no Plan B for us.
The only incorrect atatement in the article is that we can't remove troops from France, since there aren't any left.
My thoughts exactly.
Its actually easy for us to regain the appreciation of the free world. All we have to do is pull out.
Besides the protection we provide, our presence amounts to huge transfer payments to the all those various local economies.
No sense over staying our welcome!
Yep, we've been in those spots for two generations now, and if they are re-dployed stateside or somewhere else, the troops, bless'em, will be missed.
I think the country would support it.
Germany just elected a pro-US chancellor, so strange timing for the article. :)
DANG this is a good read!! I love it!!!!
